During the Fall 2025 semester, from August to December, I had the chance to intern at Clemson’s very own VA Educational Benefits office. Clemson’s VA Educational benefits office is one of the many veteran related departments at Clemson. The VA Educational section manages and reviews military and military-related students who are taking courses at Clemson for approved federal educational benefits. During my internship my responsibilities mainly involved providing guidance to prospective and enrolled students regarding VA Educational Benefits. Not only would I help Clemson attending students but I was appointed to be the guidance for the students who were thinking about studying abroad but didn’t know the process of using their military educational benefits abroad. Since I had just returned from my study abroad in Japan and had used my benefits away as well, I was the perfect fit for students who had any questions or concerns. Before I started my Internship my goals consisted of gaining more experience in areas I was unfamiliar with and it was just the start of my internship that I had the chance to get it. During the term I was fulfilling my internship was the same semester that the United States Government shut down and it was because of this more than half of the students at Clemson using educational benefits weren’t getting their payouts. Students, parents, and those alike were scared, upset, and confused, mainly because most students use these payout for rent, groceries, books, etc, so when students stopped getting paid for up to 4 months worth of stipends they started to take their concerns to Clemson’s VA Educational benefits office. It is thanks to this period of time and experience that I think that this internship was the perfect opportunity to expand experience in a scenario I have never been in before.
